Hi everybody, I am Brent Cofield your Oklahoma NAPUS PAC Chairman for 2009. Can you believe March is gone? I just got back from Washington DC where I attended the NAPUS Legislative Convention, the training was very good. You were represented by 14 of your fellow Oklahoma Postmasters that went to the Hill asking for support on the house bills that affect each one of us. NAPUS and the Political Action Committee (PAC) are on your side in 2009. We as Postmasters need to be on our toes everyday, because we are seeing changes daily. We are all hearing rumors of offices closings and benefit cuts. Yes, they are talking to each Postmaster in Oklahoma! Benefits, what do you mean, how about the percentage they pay for your health insurance, also your pay increases. This is what your NAPUS PAC does for you, they are your voice fighting for you and your future both working and retired. It takes support, from each one of you, to keep PAC financially able to oversee and fight against unwanted change.

Your NAPUS PAC is working for YOU, both active and retired Postmasters, along with our associate members and OIC’s.. I will list the Legislative Agenda that PAC is supporting briefly:

HR 22, The goal will be to enact legislation to enable the USPS to refinance its Retirement Health Trust Fund. This proposal would save the USPS about 2.8 billion per year for the 8 year period.

HR 235, The Social Security Fairness Act, which repeal both the GOP and WEP.

HR 958, The legislation would permit FERS covered em ployees to receive credit for unused sick leave upon retirement, a benefit that CSRS employees have now.

NAPUS Supports Legislation to permit federal and postal retirees to pay there FEHBP premiums on a pre-tax basis.

To support your Oklahoma PAC is money in the bank for your future. It is time to make the decision to support your PAC. Times are hard and we need to pool our resources together and fight for our rights and our postal benefits. Once they start cutting them we don’t get them back. This will help each of us, it will effect each of us. So everybody do your part and do something for yourself and send to PAC, nothing is to small. Set aside 5 dollars a pay period, I challenge each active member in NAPUS to at least send 10 dollars, friends we waste this much for a Starbuck’s Latte. You get the same support no matter what level office you work at or how active you are in your organization. NAPUS PAC is fighting for your rights, your job, PLEASE do your part.

In this mailing of the Sooner you have received a pre addressed envelope; all you need to do is put in your Contribution (Five to Five hundred dollars) and one stamp on it then drop it in the mail. Just a little support from each member helps so much in doing your part in making Oklahoma have 100% member support for PAC

I hope each one of you have looked at your Oklahoma NAPUS website, soonerpostmaster.org, This site has information you can use, like a link to lite blue and a link to National NAPUS where you can access up-to-date changes affecting Postmasters in the Postal Service.

I would like each of you to plan to attend the National NAPUS Convention that will be held in Anchorage this year. Now is the time network with your friends and fellow Postmasters. Training has been planned and will be given by Postmasters and District Staff. This is your time to bring yourself up-to-date on our ever changing jobs. Remember it is never to late to attend, you can even register at the door. I want to see you there. Rooms are very reasonable, the days off from work are free because you can use convention leave. If you have never attended a National Convention you have missed out on some enjoyable times, its fun, the training is always good. Please attend this year and remember to support your Oklahoma PAC..
